The Idaho Common Core Standards for Idaho Kids

The Idaho Common Core Standards are essential to creating an education system that prepares our young people for success in school, work, and life. The Common Core Standards raise the bar for what Idaho’s kids learn in math and English, giving them the ability to think critically, absorb information, draw conclusions and communicate orally and in writing. They give our students the skills to be life-long learners and they give parents peace of mind to know that their children are well-prepared for college and career.

Why did Idaho adopt the new standards?

Idaho parents, business leaders, legislators and policymakers were concerned that Idaho students are not be prepared for college or the workforce under the old, lower standards so they chose to set higher expectations for students by adopting the Common Core Standards in 2011.
